HF ALKY PIPE
The term “HF Alky” refers to alkylation units in refineries. They help convert crude into high-octane gasoline. Sometimes, you will see reference to various terms, which include…
HF Alky, HF Service, Low Residual Element Steel, Low RE Steel, or LRES
– these all refer to HF Alkylation –
Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) is used in the alkylation reaction, but it aggressively corrodes most metals.
There are only two types of metal that resist corrosion: (1) Monels, which are very expensive nickel alloys, and (2) especially clean carbon steels. These carbon steels require very tight controls on the cleanliness of the carbon steel alloy, and supply is continuously decreasing worldwide.
Bri-Steel can manufacture pipe from custom-designed carbon steel alloys
that meet the requirements of HF alkylation units
(ASTM/ASME A/SA106 S9, ASTM/ASME A/SA333 S2, API Recommended Practice RP 751 Annex D).
Since HF alkylation units often require large diameter seamless piping,
Bri-Steel’s special-HF-alloy large diameter seamless pipe is an ideal option.
